Electric Vehicle FAQ's
Gas savings easily reach between 50% – 60% for every mile driven.
Based on the average consumption of an electric vehicle, charging at home in the Cayman Islands costs approximately CI$9.69 for every 100 miles or CI$0.097 cents per mile. Compared to the average consumption of a gas car at current gas pricing in the Cayman Islands, this equals CI$22-CI$23 for every 100 miles or CI$0.22 cents per mile.
In addition, electric vehicles contain fewer moving parts in the electric motor and therefore require less general maintenance and repairs, which results in average savings of CI$500 per year.
If you drive on average 10,000 miles per year, gas savings alone would equal approximately CI$1,250. With an additional CI$500 savings in maintenance costs, you could easily see savings of CI$1,750 or more each year. Note: this will vary with the fluctuation in gas and parts prices.
One of the key features of EV’s is their technological advancement. Due to the weight and positioning of the battery packs, electric cars tend to have a lower center of gravity and better weight distribution between the axles, which helps to prevent rollovers.
Batteries are housed in tough individual cases and are supported by advanced risk management systems, which reduces the chances to catch fire or cause internal explosions in an accident compared to petrol or diesel cars carrying a fuel tank.
One of the main benefits for switching to electric vehicles is that they produce zero tailpipe emissions. This reduces pollution and substantially improves the livability and air quality in the Cayman Islands.
Due to electric vehicles not having an internal combustion engine you do not have any of the typical maintenance issues associated with gas vehicles such as oil changes, spark plugs, radiator leaks etc. You will have normal maintenance items like tire wear and tear, brake fluid checks and HVAC system servicing, just like any other car.
Although brakes in most electric vehicles will typically last far longer than those in their gas-powered counterparts, brake pad replacement will need to happen occasionally.
